Thank Allah that we met him and he did a good surgery
Many thanks to Dr Bora Basharan and Alisher Durdiev! Diagnosis: carcinoma on the tongue. Alisher was very helpful with the choice and full support during the treatment. He gave us confidence in choosing Dr Bora Basharan by telling us about his professionalism and humanity. The most important thing for Alisher was the patient's health and to organise the diagnosis/surgery so that the patient gets the best results. We are very happy about this. We could not decide on the treatment (we were waiting for answers from South Korea) and Alisher did not give up to provide us with doctor's answers, answer our many questions and help with organisation. His ability to speak excellent Russian helped a lot in communication. The first meeting organised by Alisher went well. The doctor explained everything about the surgery and gave us peace of mind due to his experience as a highly specialised ENT surgeon in oncology. The operation went well and the follow up health checks. The recovery is good. We read many positive reviews online about Dr Bor Basharan which gave us more confidence. The reviews are true. After the surgery we were given a room with excellent food and the recovery was good. Thank Allah that we met Alisher and Dr Bora Basharan, for his golden hands, good surgery and organisation. Thank you very much again! Good health to all! Read more less

Honestly, I'm in awe from this experience
The hospital was fantastic, room was private, with all required amenities, cafe - lovely, everything was beautiful and clean. Staff were just so accommodating, my Doctor was knowledgeable, explained the procedure in detail. Honestly, I'm in awe from this experience. And even though I was coming in with a slight fear and a tiny panic attack, there was really no need to worry, everything is on a highest level! Thanks to all! Read more less

I got more than value for my money
Memorial is more than a hospital. It is home from home. Very hospitable and caring staff who show a lot of empathy. My one night stay in the hospital was a delightful experience, kind and available staff, every neat and hygienic room. The doctors are on top of their job. I was taken through a lecture in nuclear physics 101, broken in simple language. The lecturer helped allayed my initial fears about the treatment. The treatment was speedy and the results came so quickly. The doctor was by my bedside to explain the next steps. The translator was fantastic. The transportation service was superb, always on time. I would like to thank the clinic and all the medical staff for the help provided and for the sensitive attitude towards each client
Very pleased with the attitude towards patients. The staff was polite and courteous. They responded quickly to all my needs. They suggested the best alternative treatment and were very tactful during the operation. The operation was done under local anaesthesia, and painkillers have very little effect on me, but the doctor was very sensitive and understanding of my condition and patiently waited and increased the dose of anaesthesia until the action started. And during the whole operation constantly asked about my condition and even on small reactions of pain, which were reflected apparently in my face immediately responded. And the assistants (nurses) were close by, giving emotional support. I would especially like to mention the attitude of the interpreter Rabia, who was always in touch with me throughout my stay and answered at any time of the day, despite the workload I saw. This is very human of her when you don't know anything and don't know the language. I would like to thank the clinic and all the medical staff for the help provided and for the sensitive attitude towards each client. Read more less

In general, the best impressions were left
I would like to share my positive impression of the clinic and bookimed.com. First of all, I was pleasantly surprised by the speed of the examination - all procedures were organised quickly and clearly, without long waits. The clinic is equipped with modern equipment, which inspires confidence and gives confidence in the accuracy of diagnosis. I would like to emphasise the responsiveness and professionalism of the staff. Each employee showed attention and care, which made the treatment process much more comfortable. A pleasant addition was the work of interpreter Gulnara and coordinator Zahida - it greatly facilitated communication with doctors and understanding of all stages of examination. I would also like to express my gratitude for the transfer and the work of the driver, which helped to save time and eliminated the need to think about the road. From visiting the clinic and undergoing examination were only negative impressions. Appointed to the doctor for 10 days at a certain time, and got an hour later! All tests were taken promptly, in 1 day and promised the results and a visit to the doctor in 2-3 days (the doctor himself said that everything needs to be done very quickly, because I needed urgent treatment), and silence .... Irada I didn’t answer calls ... We only got contact with the help of Bookimed employees! In general, we got to the doctor only after a week, and we were told that we needed to do another examination !!! (remembered) In general, we lost time in vain, which is very important for cancer patients, nerves and money ... Many thanks to the girls from Bookimed for support, help and patience Ie !!! I am grateful to Katerina, Daria, Olga and Darina for the help and support !!! I do not recommend Medipole. I am undergoing treatment in another clinic!

Nobody offered us a ward, and if we offered we couldn’t pay it, it’s about 500 dollars a day, the doctors’ approach is good, but I think we should warn the patient about his future expenses and give an alternative for treatment because he’s not ready for such expenses, thereby putting people in an awkward position by themselves, the procedures are very expensive or perhaps it seems to us expensive because we did not quite think about their prices like that. I think when you come to this clinic with a complex form of the disease, you need to have a good wallet, now I don’t have enough pills for treatment because it costs more than $ 1,700, I don’t have that much money, you know what to do after that. Maybe I'm complaining off topic, but it touched me during treatment, it would be nice if the clinic has its own hotel at a more affordable price. We counted on a week and stayed for a month. This is the fee for the room, this is the food for additional expenses that were not considered. Well, something like this, and no one cares about our capabilities.

We got to the MEMORIAL clinic due to an urgent diagnosis. The successful outcome of the operation depended on promptness. The question was about days. The operation was carried out the next day. The most difficult operation according to the Whipple method. Conducted by professor, head of surgery. Low bow to him. The entire staff of the department works perfectly, promptly responds to any request. Separately, I want to say about the work of the translator Aida. High qualification, operational work at any time of the day, sincerity - only a small description of her qualities. Special thanks for providing meals to the patient and accompanying person. The cuisine is very tasty, in some positions it is better than homemade. I enjoyed the vegetarian cuisine. But there is a different one. A low bow to all the staff of the clinic. They saved my husband's life.

My dad, radiation therapy, 40 sessions, about 2 months of stay in Istanbul were treated in the clinic. It's still early to speak about the results, therefore the review is exclusively about the process (!) For now. The choice helped to make bookimed, and I highly recommend using this excellent service. As a user, I would like to name the most basic plus. First and foremost, it is time saving, and in some cases it is equivalent to the preservation of health and life. And what is important, without costs for the patient, there is simply no payment for the company's service. Moreover, service coordinators are a huge resource for patients. We had Konstantin, and we are very grateful for the help and the choice of the best medical solution (at the price / quality / reputation of the doctor / clinic) and great help in solving logistical issues. When we have to deal with "medical tourism", there are no tourism patients for the patients there: (In addition to the medical problem, there are many practical, financial, coordination issues. It is important to have support on the side of the patient, we are very grateful. Now about the clinic: in general, the clinic liked, very modern and good equipment (so it was chosen), a good price-quality ratio. . From the pros: the doctor radiologist and the staff of the radiological department were attentive and in matters of medicine, and just a relationship. 40 sessions are 40 visits to the clinic, it is difficult, both physically and morally. The benevolent staff really helped make this experience less painful in all respects. I will not write much about the interior of the clinic, but for whom the aesthetics are important, yes, everything is excellent, modern, clean, often more like a hotel. As elsewhere, there is a large team of translators. To communicate with doctors used English directly, there certainly are many advantages. But all 40 sessions and not only were always assisted by translators in communicating with junior honey. personnel, coordination issues, medical records to the doctor, analyzes, transfers, etc. From the minuses: The clinic is in a very expensive and difficult physically accessible area (on a hill). Despite the fact that we lived side by side (significantly overpaying compared to other areas of Istanbul), we had to use motor transport every day. For a short stay, this is not a problem, but when a longer period is still an inconvenience. Some translators of the clinic introduced the category of "minuses" of the clinic. People are different, qualification, too, but it was still in a significant minority (our main interpreter was both professional and human). Again in the minority (!), But for the objectivity to mention, some doctors offered super expensive tests in very standard situations. For example, oh, well, if you want, in addition to the X-ray, we can do another CT scan (when coughing), which besides doubtful honey. values (not to mention money) was recently and so done. Again, our main doctor is very intelligible and enthusiastically explained the essence of the treatment, the expected effect, side effects, prescribed drugs on time to eliminate them, which of course, most important! As a conclusion, the minuses will always and everywhere, but in general, from our experience, we are satisfied with the process of treatment in the LIV hospital. Thank you hospital and bukimed team.

FAQ about Oncology in Turkey

Why is Turkey notable for its cancer treatments?

benefits of cancer treatment in turkey

Turkey has become a globally recognized destination for cancer care, offering exceptional treatment options, patient outcomes, and accessibility. Here’s why patients from around the world choose Turkey for their cancer treatment:

1️⃣ High survival rates

Cancer survival rates in Turkey are comparable to those of other developed countries. Examples of five-year survival rates include:

  • Breast cancer: 86%.
  • Lung cancer: 100% for patients with early-stage lung cancer, 65%–70% for the advanced stage.
  • Uterine cancer: 85%.

The overall five-year survival rate for childhood cancer in Turkey has reached 74.4%. For specific types, such as non-Hodgkin lymphoma, survival rates improved dramatically from 63.7% to 91.8% after 2002.

2️⃣ Latest technology and world-class facilities

Turkey offers advanced cancer treatments, including Da Vinci robotic surgery, CyberKnife and Gamma Knife surgery, immunotherapy, targeted therapies, and advanced diagnostic tools like PET/CT scans and MRIs.

3️⃣ Focus on early diagnosis

After 2002, the percentage of patients diagnosed at an early stage in Turkey increased significantly. For instance, advanced-stage diagnoses for neuroblastoma dropped from 82.4% to 56.2% after 2002. This shift improved survival rates for several cancers, including neuroblastoma (from 46.8% to 70.5%).

4️⃣ Cost-effective treatment

The combination of lower operational costs and favorable living costs in Turkey leads to the overall affordability of medical services. Cancer treatment costs in Turkey range from $4,000 to $20,000, significantly lower than in the United States, where expenses can exceed $100,000. Patients receive world-class care, from diagnostics to advanced therapies, at a fraction of the cost.

5️⃣ Multidisciplinary approach to care

Turkish hospitals adopt a team-based approach to cancer treatment. Specialists in oncology, surgery, radiology, and other fields collaborate to develop comprehensive treatment plans. As a result, patients receive well-rounded care according to their specific conditions.

6️⃣ Accessibility for international patients

Turkey’s strategic location makes it easily accessible from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Leading hospitals like Anadolu Medical Center and Memorial Clinic offer specialized services for international patients, including translation assistance and travel support.

7️⃣ Short wait times

Minimizing delays can be critical in cancer care. Patients can often arrange treatment in Turkey within a few days, compared to weeks in Germany and months in the USA.

  • Brain cancers. Tumors originating in the brain and central nervous system, including gliomas, meningiomas, and medulloblastomas.
  • Metastatic and advanced cancers. Refers to cancers that have spread to other organs or tissues, complicating treatment.

What types of cancer treatments are available in Turkey?

cancer treatment turkey types

Turkish clinics have a comprehensive range of cancer treatments. Here's an overview of the main types of cancer treatments available in Turkey:

1️⃣ Surgical oncology

Surgery remains one of the primary treatments for cancer, aiming to remove tumors and surrounding tissues. In Turkey, surgical options include:

2️⃣ Radiation therapy

In radiation oncology, high-energy rays are used to target and kill cancer cells. Advanced radiotherapy techniques available in Turkey include:

  • Proton-beam therapy. Effective for hard-to-reach tumors, such as in the brain or near vital organs.
  • Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS). Delivers highly focused radiation in fewer sessions, ideal for brain and lung cancers.
  • Brachytherapy. Involves implanting radiation sources directly into or near the tumor for localized treatment.
  • CyberKnife radiosurgery. A non-invasive method for treating brain and spinal cord tumors with pinpoint accuracy.

3️⃣ Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy involves the use of drugs to kill or slow the growth of cancer cells. It is commonly used for cancers like breast cancer, colorectal cancer, and leukemia.

4️⃣ Immunotherapy

Immunotherapy boosts the body’s immune system to recognize and attack cancer cells. Turkey offers:

  • Checkpoint inhibitors. These drugs block proteins that prevent the immune system from attacking cancer cells.
  • CAR-T cell therapy. A patient’s T are modified in a lab to better recognize and destroy malignant cells. It’s primarily used for blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma.

5️⃣ Targeted therapy

Targeted therapy focuses on specific molecules or genetic mutations that drive cancer growth. It’s effective for breast cancer, lung cancer, and some types of leukemia.

6️⃣ Hormone therapy

Hormone therapy is designed for cancers that rely on hormones to grow, such as breast and prostate cancers. It works by:

  • blocking hormone receptors on malignant cells;
  • reducing the production of hormones like estrogen or testosterone.

7️⃣ Bone m transplant

For cancers affecting blood and , like leukemia and lymphoma, Turkey offers such types of transplantation:

8️⃣ Ablative therapies

Ablative therapies provide non-invasive or minimally invasive options to destroy cancerous tissues:

Latest Advancements in Cancer Treatment

Innovative breakthroughs in cancer care are transforming how we diagnose and treat oncological diseases. Here are some of the recent advancements that improve cancer detection and survival rates:

Smarter diagnostics 🧪

  • PET/CT imaging. Identifies cancer in hard-to-diagnose areas like the head and neck, reducing undetected cases from 9% to 1–2%.
  • AI-powered tools. Models like TOAD and ‘Sybil’ identify tumor origins with 83% precision and predict lung cancer risks 6 years in advance.
  • Liquid biopsies. Non-invasive blood tests detect cancer with 99% precision, making early diagnosis easier and safer.

Advanced treatments 🎯

  • Immunotherapy. Treatments like checkpoint inhibitors (e.g., pembrolizumab) show remarkable success, with 85% survival rates in advanced colorectal cancer. CAR-T cell therapy achieves remission in 90% of patients with blood cancers such as lymphoma.
  • Proton beam therapy. This method spares healthy tissue while treating cancer. 88% of cancer patients avoid severe complications. Complications arise over 2 times less often than with traditional radiation therapy.
  • Robotic-assisted surgery. Enhances precision and reduces risks like blood loss and infections. Offers faster recovery for patients undergoing complex procedures.

How do Turkish clinics ensure accurate cancer diagnosis?

Cancer diagnosis is a complex process requiring advanced technology, skilled specialists, and a systematic approach. Turkish clinics deliver precise diagnoses by combining modern equipment with expertise in medical oncology.

1️⃣ Laboratory tests

Laboratory tests measure chemical levels in blood, urine, and other body fluids. Abnormal levels may indicate cancer. Examples include:

  • tumor marker tests, which detect specific proteins linked to certain cancers;
  • liquid biopsies, which analyze cancer DNA in the bloodstream;
  • cytology, which examines cells from bodily fluids or tissue scrapings for abnormalities.

2️⃣ Imaging tests

Imaging tests create detailed pictures of internal organs, helping to identify tumors, assess size, and check for spread.

Standard imaging methods include:

3️⃣ Endoscopy

Endoscopy involves using a camera-equipped tool to look inside the patient’s body for tumors. Examples include:

4️⃣ Biopsies

Biopsies confirm cancer diagnoses by analyzing tumor tissue. Pathologists examine biopsied tissue under a microscope and may use molecular profiling to determine the cancer’s type, stage, and best treatment options.
