I would like to share my positive impression of the clinic and bookimed.com. First of all, I was pleasantly surprised by the speed of the examination - all procedures were organised quickly and clearly, without long waits. The clinic is equipped with modern equipment, which inspires confidence and gives confidence in the accuracy of diagnosis. I would like to emphasise the responsiveness and professionalism of the staff. Each employee showed attention and care, which made the treatment process much more comfortable. A pleasant addition was the work of interpreter Gulnara and coordinator Zahida - it greatly facilitated communication with doctors and understanding of all stages of examination. I would also like to express my gratitude for the transfer and the work of the driver, which helped to save time and eliminated the need to think about the road. In general, the best impressions were left. Many thanks to the whole team of the clinic for the high level of service and human attitude!

I had a terrible experience. Dr. Zielinski was dismissive and rushed me, he hasn't answered my questions and he asked me for more tests in order to speak about treatment plans when I was told previously that I didn't need any tests in order to proceed with the consultation and receive a treatment plan. He didn't bother to explain the disease or treatment options. I was looking forward to speak to him and I put so much hope. I needed someone to explain and guide me. I was left with such a bed feeling after the consultation. No empathy and no professionalism. Bookimed apologise but they said that they can't do anything because I paid directly the clinic, even if they are the intermediary they don't take responsibility, so be very careful when booking any services. I wasted 400 euros for 10 minutes that I was trying to make a few questions in order to get some value for the money but the only thing I got was disappointment, frustration, stress and time waste for arguing. I asked for at least to have some questions asked in writing so I could get something back for my money, but they refused, and they said that the consultation was compleated. In the first place, they said that I had a second consultation for free because it wasn't compleated, and then they said it was a mistake and the consultation was compleated. Please be careful where you spend your money and put your hopes because they don't care about taking advantage of ill people in order to make money. Probably are not all the same but my experience was awful and I am very disappointed. Some become doctors because they want to help people and others have no feelings or empathy. I hope this helps whoever is reading and I hope you find a better option than I did with a doctor that cares and will help you. God bless.

From the minute I was inquiring about an appointment through to an entire 2 hours of tests, I felt completely taken care of. Being in a foreign country where it’s not your first language can be daunting when needing healthcare. My healthcare navigator Leen was so wonderful. She brought me to each doctor or department, got me situated and was also my translator. She was kind, compassionate & so incredibly helpful. I was incredibly grateful to have her by my side. I saw Dr. Bassols who was incredibly warm, knowledgeable and put my fears at ease. The other technicians were also wonderful and caring. I highly recommend the staff and care I received at Centro Medico Teknon and the team from bookimed that connected me to them. Thank you everyone!!

Memorial is more than a hospital. It is home from home. Very hospitable and caring staff who show a lot of empathy. My one night stay in the hospital was a delightful experience, kind and available staff, every neat and hygienic room. The doctors are on top of their job. I was taken through a lecture in nuclear physics 101, broken in simple language. The lecturer helped allayed my initial fears about the treatment. The treatment was speedy and the results came so quickly. The doctor was by my bedside to explain the next steps. The translator was fantastic. The transportation service was superb, always on time. I got more than value for my money. I will strongly recommend Memorial Sisli Hospital for any person seeking Lu-177 therapy

Very pleased with the attitude towards patients. The staff was polite and courteous. They responded quickly to all my needs. They suggested the best alternative treatment and were very tactful during the operation. The operation was done under local anaesthesia, and painkillers have very little effect on me, but the doctor was very sensitive and understanding of my condition and patiently waited and increased the dose of anaesthesia until the action started. And during the whole operation constantly asked about my condition and even on small reactions of pain, which were reflected apparently in my face immediately responded. And the assistants (nurses) were close by, giving emotional support. I would especially like to mention the attitude of the interpreter Rabia, who was always in touch with me throughout my stay and answered at any time of the day, despite the workload I saw. This is very human of her when you don't know anything and don't know the language. I would like to thank the clinic and all the medical staff for the help provided and for the sensitive attitude towards each client.

My dad, radiation therapy, 40 sessions, about 2 months of stay in Istanbul were treated in the clinic. It's still early to speak about the results, therefore the review is exclusively about the process (!) For now. The choice helped to make bookimed, and I highly recommend using this excellent service. As a user, I would like to name the most basic plus. First and foremost, it is time saving, and in some cases it is equivalent to the preservation of health and life. And what is important, without costs for the patient, there is simply no payment for the company's service. Moreover, service coordinators are a huge resource for patients. We had Konstantin, and we are very grateful for the help and the choice of the best medical solution (at the price / quality / reputation of the doctor / clinic) and great help in solving logistical issues. When we have to deal with "medical tourism", there are no tourism patients for the patients there: (In addition to the medical problem, there are many practical, financial, coordination issues. It is important to have support on the side of the patient, we are very grateful. Now about the clinic: in general, the clinic liked, very modern and good equipment (so it was chosen), a good price-quality ratio. . From the pros: the doctor radiologist and the staff of the radiological department were attentive and in matters of medicine, and just a relationship. 40 sessions are 40 visits to the clinic, it is difficult, both physically and morally. The benevolent staff really helped make this experience less painful in all respects. I will not write much about the interior of the clinic, but for whom the aesthetics are important, yes, everything is excellent, modern, clean, often more like a hotel. As elsewhere, there is a large team of translators. To communicate with doctors used English directly, there certainly are many advantages. But all 40 sessions and not only were always assisted by translators in communicating with junior honey. personnel, coordination issues, medical records to the doctor, analyzes, transfers, etc. From the minuses: The clinic is in a very expensive and difficult physically accessible area (on a hill). Despite the fact that we lived side by side (significantly overpaying compared to other areas of Istanbul), we had to use motor transport every day. For a short stay, this is not a problem, but when a longer period is still an inconvenience. Some translators of the clinic introduced the category of "minuses" of the clinic. People are different, qualification, too, but it was still in a significant minority (our main interpreter was both professional and human). Again in the minority (!), But for the objectivity to mention, some doctors offered super expensive tests in very standard situations. For example, oh, well, if you want, in addition to the X-ray, we can do another CT scan (when coughing), which besides doubtful honey. values (not to mention money) was recently and so done. Again, our main doctor is very intelligible and enthusiastically explained the essence of the treatment, the expected effect, side effects, prescribed drugs on time to eliminate them, which of course, most important! As a conclusion, the minuses will always and everywhere, but in general, from our experience, we are satisfied with the process of treatment in the LIV hospital. Thank you hospital and bukimed team.

Good day! During this treatment, I was only twice in this medical center, both times in the laboratory for blood donation, I waited 1 hour for the first time, 30 minutes for the second time, despite the fact that there was no visitor except me. All other actions, including the consultation of the doctor, were not in this clinic, so it is difficult for me, based on the foregoing, to make a different assessment. Also about the doctor. I was given the wrong doctor who was originally declared. I do not know anything about the current attending physician, please provide the data whenever possible. The doctor's conclusion, by the way, was also not carried out on Ichilov’s form — on a regular sheet and contains not the appointments that were made as a result, the doctor’s explanation of the side effects of the drugs (but I was going there, because your specialist said medicine without side effects and this was the key for me), appointed in the end and containing quite strong side effects.

From visiting the clinic and undergoing examination were only negative impressions. Appointed to the doctor for 10 days at a certain time, and got an hour later! All tests were taken promptly, in 1 day and promised the results and a visit to the doctor in 2-3 days (the doctor himself said that everything needs to be done very quickly, because I needed urgent treatment), and silence .... Irada I didn’t answer calls ... We only got contact with the help of Bookimed employees! In general, we got to the doctor only after a week, and we were told that we needed to do another examination !!! (remembered) In general, we lost time in vain, which is very important for cancer patients, nerves and money ... Many thanks to the girls from Bookimed for support, help and patience Ie !!! I am grateful to Katerina, Daria, Olga and Darina for the help and support !!! I do not recommend Medipole. I am undergoing treatment in another clinic!

We got to the MEMORIAL clinic due to an urgent diagnosis. The successful outcome of the operation depended on promptness. The question was about days. The operation was carried out the next day. The most difficult operation according to the Whipple method. Conducted by professor, head of surgery. Low bow to him. The entire staff of the department works perfectly, promptly responds to any request. Separately, I want to say about the work of the translator Aida. High qualification, operational work at any time of the day, sincerity - only a small description of her qualities. Special thanks for providing meals to the patient and accompanying person. The cuisine is very tasty, in some positions it is better than homemade. I enjoyed the vegetarian cuisine. But there is a different one. A low bow to all the staff of the clinic. They saved my husband's life.

Nobody offered us a ward, and if we offered we couldn’t pay it, it’s about 500 dollars a day, the doctors’ approach is good, but I think we should warn the patient about his future expenses and give an alternative for treatment because he’s not ready for such expenses, thereby putting people in an awkward position by themselves, the procedures are very expensive or perhaps it seems to us expensive because we did not quite think about their prices like that. I think when you come to this clinic with a complex form of the disease, you need to have a good wallet, now I don’t have enough pills for treatment because it costs more than $ 1,700, I don’t have that much money, you know what to do after that. Maybe I'm complaining off topic, but it touched me during treatment, it would be nice if the clinic has its own hotel at a more affordable price. We counted on a week and stayed for a month. This is the fee for the room, this is the food for additional expenses that were not considered. Well, something like this, and no one cares about our capabilities.

Just returned from there. Everything was top notch, and doctors, and the organization of the stay. It took 2 days from the first call to the bookmarked to my arrival in Milan. The next morning, consult a doctor. All questions were solved almost instantly, the results of all analyzes and studies were ready the next day. And constantly in touch with the coordinator Catherine and care worker Alexander. In my trips to the clinic, I was accompanied by a super translator Yulya Sukhneva. Thanks to the clear and professional work of Julia, Kati and Alexander, my stay was very short, I saved money on the hotel. The hotel, by the way, was excellent, up to the clinic, 200 meters. Yes, and more, the prices for consultations and analyzes are quite comparable with those in Moscow. I spent much less money than I thought at first. Thank you all!

Many thanks to Dr Bora Basharan and Alisher Durdiev! Diagnosis: carcinoma on the tongue. Alisher was very helpful with the choice and full support during the treatment. He gave us confidence in choosing Dr Bora Basharan by telling us about his professionalism and humanity. The most important thing for Alisher was the patient's health and to organise the diagnosis/surgery so that the patient gets the best results. We are very happy about this. We could not decide on the treatment (we were waiting for answers from South Korea) and Alisher did not give up to provide us with doctor's answers, answer our many questions and help with organisation. His ability to speak excellent Russian helped a lot in communication. The first meeting organised by Alisher went well. The doctor explained everything about the surgery and gave us peace of mind due to his experience as a highly specialised ENT surgeon in oncology. The operation went well and the follow up health checks. The recovery is good. We read many positive reviews online about Dr Bor Basharan which gave us more confidence. The reviews are true. After the surgery we were given a room with excellent food and the recovery was good. Thank Allah that we met Alisher and Dr Bora Basharan, for his golden hands, good surgery and organisation. Thank you very much again! Good health to all!

My name is Sergey, I am undergoing treatment at the oncology department of the Nordwest Clinic in Frankfurt am Main. I would like to note the high professional level of doctors, the technical equipment of the clinic at the proper level. I want to express special gratitude to Professor Elka Yeager, senior doctor Kiselichki, Dr. Weber, the highest level of professionalism, are very friendly and attentive, the junior staff are smart, everything is super, I’m very pleased with the treatment, if not for one “but” ... Because of ignorance language had to contact the company "Phoenix Service", which is an intermediary for the provision of medical services, led by Radislav. My communication with them began with the fact that before arrival they demanded a significant prepayment, which was timely transferred to their account. After arriving at the clinic, I had to transfer money several times, rather big money. I persistently asked the company’s employees to conclude an agreement with me on the provision of services by Phoenix Service, in order to specifically understand which services and for what specific payment the services will be provided. However, no contracts, as well as invoices with prices, were provided to me, which directly testifies to dishonesty. Only two months later I received the clinic’s bills (with which I completely agree) and separately a bill from Phoenix Service for the services rendered, after viewing which there were simply no words ... As it turned out, being treated in Germany was not expensive, it was expensive to pay for the services of Phoenix invoiced, which either didn’t turn out at all, or turned out to be in the wrong amount and at very high prices. I tried to talk with the head of the company Radislav, saying that I did not agree with the bill, to which I received the answer "if something does not suit you, you can refuse our services further." I officially wrote an appeal to the clinic about the detachment from this dishonest company, to which I received a positive response. He also wrote an official letter to Phoenix with a request to review the account, to which he still has not received an answer. I want to warn everyone who is in my position, those cancer patients who sell everything in order to pay for treatment and live on, but these “phoenixes” don’t stop at anything to enrich themselves at their expense.

From the bottom of my heart I want to thank Professor Gross, as well as all the staff of the Asclepios clinic in Hamburg for their high professionalism, efficiency, sensitivity and attention to patients. About a month ago left an application on the site bookimed, within an hour I was contacted by coordinator Katerina, immediately offered several clinics specializing in oncourology. The choice fell on Asclepios in Hamburg, in particular, Professor Gross. Within a week, thanks to Katerina's efforts, prof. Gross, determined the tactics of treatment and already in a week there was immediate operation. There were some doubts that the nephrectomy could be performed laparoscopically, but the golden hands of prof. Gross know their business. The postoperative period went smoothly, recovered quickly. During the week of the stay, there were no complaints about the work of the staff: attentive, sensitive and affable. Conditions are more than comfortable. The language barrier was not a problem due to the well-coordinated work of the translators Lydia Goncharenko and Vladimir Fissenko. Separately, I want to once again express my gratitude to coordinator Katerina, who was always in touch, quickly resolved all sorts of difficulties.

In principle, the visit went very well, only good impressions remained. Now there are certain problems, because doctors at home do not agree with the diagnosis that was made in China, but we were provided with professional help at the Food Clinic. Despite the fact that the full-time translator was on vacation and we took it on our own, the visit went very well. The rooms are very good, they look like 5 star rooms. As soon as we arrived, the nurses came to the ward, measured the pressure, helped in everything. In general, the clinic staff is friendly and helpful.

Very quick and clear consultation of Bookimed coordinators. For several hours, they helped organize a consultation at the clinic and lure the flight. A transfer from the airport to the city was also organized. In the clinic, with the help of coordinators, a consultation with explanations was successfully held, diagnostics were carried out, and the treatment process started. Very good attitude of doctors.

Expert Overview about Bone cancer Treatment

What Is Bone Cancer?

Bone cancer is a rare and aggressive cancer that develops in the bones or surrounding tissues. While it can affect people of all ages, it’s most commonly diagnosed in children, adolescents, and young adults. Early detection and proper diagnosis are crucial for successful treatment.

Bone cancer originates in the bones or the soft tissues around them, including cartilage, muscles, and blood vessels. These tumors can disrupt bone growth, cause pain, and limit mobility.

stage 4 bone cancer

What Is the Primary Bone Cancer?

Primary bone cancer refers to the tumors originating in the bones or surrounding tissues. This type of bone cancer does not include metastasized tumors, which typically arise in another location.

For example, cancer that starts in the lungs and spreads to the bones is still considered lung cancer, even though it has metastasized to the bones. Healthcare professionals may refer to this as “lung cancer with bone metastases.”

Secondary bone cancer, on the other side, starts in the other body part and then spreads to the bones via the bloodstream or lymph nodes.

What Are the Types of Bone Cancers?

There are two main categories of bone cancer:

  • Osteosarcoma is the most common type of bone cancer, primarily affecting the arms and legs. It typically occurs during growth spurts in adolescence. Osteosarcoma affects osteoblasts, the cells that form new bone and is most common in teenagers during growth spurts

  • Chondrosarcoma starts in cartilage cells and is more frequent in older adults.

Less common types of bone cancer include:

  • Ewing's sarcoma. A rare but aggressive type of bone cancer that often affects younger children and can develop in the bones or the soft tissue around the bones.

  • Fibrosarcoma originates in fibrous connective tissue within the bones.

  • Giant cell tumor is a slow-growing type of bone cancer that can sometimes become cancerous.

What Causes Bone Cancer?

Bone cancer can affect anyone, but certain demographic factors can increase the likelihood of developing the disease. Age is a significant factor, with bone cancer being more common in older adults. However, some types, like osteosarcoma, are more prevalent in adolescents and young adults. Men are generally at a higher risk compared to women.

The exact cause of primary bone cancer remains unknown. However, several factors can contribute to an increased risk:

Cause Explanation

Genetic predisposition

A family history of genetic conditions like Li-Fraumeni syndrome (a rare inherited disease caused by a problem with a gene called TP53).

Radiation exposure

Previous radiation therapy for treating other cancers can increase the risk of developing bone cancer in the treated area.

Chemical exposure

Prolonged exposure to chemicals like herbicides and dioxins.

Paget's disease

A benign condition characterized by one of a few bone areas being more active than others. This usually happens in older people (after 50 years old) and can result in abnormal bone functioning, which makes them more susceptible to fracture.

What Are the Symptoms of Bone Cancer?

Early symptoms of bone cancer can be subtle and easily mistaken for other conditions, such as arthritis in adults and growing pains in children and teenagers.

Here are some common symptoms to watch for:

  • Persistent bone pain that worsens over time, especially at night;

  • A new lump or swelling in the bone, often painless initially;

  • Tenderness or discomfort in the affected area;

  • Limited movement or difficulty using the affected limb;

  • Unexplained fatigue, weight loss, or fever;

  • Fractures with minimal trauma.

How to Diagnose Bone Cancer?

The best way to diagnose a specific type of bone cancer is to consider its location and examine a tissue sample.

Here’s what the diagnostic process looks like:

  • Medical history and physical examination. The doctor inquires about the patient's medical history and conducts a physical exam.

  • Imaging tests, like X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, and bone scans, can reveal the tumor’s location, size, and extent.

  • Biopsy. A tissue sample from the tumor is extracted and examined under a microscope to confirm the presence of cancer cells.

  • Genetic testing. In some cases, genetic testing can help determine if an inherited condition contributes to the cancer.

What Are the Types of Biopsy to Find Bone Cancer Cells?

The biopsy is a sure way to determine whether cancerous cells are present. The type of biopsy depends on whether the tumor looks like cancer and what kind of tumor it might be. Sometimes, a needle biopsy is enough, but other times, a larger sample is needed.

Needle biopsy — inserting a needle

Surgical (open) biopsy — cutting through the skin

Core needle biopsy Fine needle aspiration (FNA) Incisional biopsy Excisional biopsy
A large needle removes a cylinder of tissue. A thin needle takes a small sample of fluid and cells from the tumor. Removing a piece of tumor. Removing the entire tumor.

What Are the Stages of Bone Cancer?

The staging of bone cancer depends on the size and location of the tumor. Understanding these stages is crucial for determining the appropriate treatment plan:

  • Stage 1 is when the cancer is small and confined to the bone.

  • Stage 2 is when the tumor is larger and may have spread to nearby tissues but not distant body parts.

  • Stage 3 is when the cancer has spread to distant body parts, such as the lungs or liver.

  • Stage 4 is when the cancer has spread to multiple distant parts of the body and is considered advanced.

The more specific way to determine bone cancer stage is to define it by the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (MSTS) staging system (also known as the Enneking system). The doctors use three main factors:

  • 🔴 Grade (G) shows how abnormal the cancer cells look under a microscope. Low-grade cells are less likely to spread, while high-grade cells are more likely to spread.

  • 🟡 The extent of the primary tumor (T) tells whether the cancer is still inside the bone (T1) or has spread to nearby structures (T2).

  • 🟢 Metastasis (M) shows whether the cancer has spread to other parts of the body (M1) or not (M0).

These factors are combined to give an overall stage, using Roman numerals from I to III. Stages I and II are further divided into A (tumor is inside the bone) or B (tumor has spread to nearby structures).

What Are the Bone Cancer Treatment Options?

The doctors must evaluate the tumor's stage and type before they start treating bone cancer.

Here are the main approaches used:

Surgery

It is the primary treatment for localized bone cancers. This may involve limb-sparing surgery to remove the tumor while preserving the limb or amputation in advanced cases.

Radiation therapy

This method uses high-energy X-rays to destroy cancer cells. Bone cancer involves beams of radiation explicitly directed at the cancerous areas of bone. It can be used before or after surgery to shrink tumors or kill remaining cancer cells.

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy involves prescribing drugs that kill cancer cells throughout the body. It’s often used with surgery and radiation therapy to improve treatment outcomes. Chemotherapy can also affect healthy cells, leading to side effects during and after treatment.

Immunotherapy

Mifamurtide is a medication that stimulates the immune system to produce specialized cells that target and kill cancerous cells. It is typically recommended for young people with high-grade osteosarcomas and is given after surgery, in combination with chemotherapy, to help prevent the cancer from returning.

The latest treatment for bone cancer also includes monoclonal antibodies, such as nivolumab and ipilimumab. They stop cancer cells from spreading and block the enzymes needed for cell growth.

Targeted therapy

The method marks specific molecules involved in cancer cell growth and progression. They can be a promising option for advanced bone cancer research.

  • CyberKnife is a non-surgical option where doctors target high-dose radiation, specifically on tumor cells. It is entirely painless and requires fewer treatment sessions.

  • Varian Edge is the newest linear accelerator for stereotaxic radiation therapy, successfully targeting bone cancer remains.

What Is the Estimated Bone Cancer Treatment Cost?

The cost of bone cancer treatment depends on several factors, including:

  • Type of bone cancer. The doctors treat bone cancer differently based on specific cell characteristics.

  • The cancer stage indicates how far it has spread, which will influence the complexity and duration of treatment.
