Memorial is more than a hospital. It is home from home. Very hospitable and caring staff who show a lot of empathy. My one night stay in the hospital was a delightful experience, kind and available staff, every neat and hygienic room. The doctors are on top of their job. I was taken through a lecture in nuclear physics 101, broken in simple language. The lecturer helped allayed my initial fears about the treatment. The treatment was speedy and the results came so quickly. The doctor was by my bedside to explain the next steps. The translator was fantastic. The transportation service was superb, always on time. I got more than value for my money. I will strongly recommend Memorial Sisli Hospital for any person seeking Lu-177 therapy

The staff is great. At the moment, we are waiting for the results of the tests, since the wrong diagnosis was made in Ukraine. In Ukraine, sarcoma was treated for 7 months and it is gone. We are not saying that there is no oncology, but the fact that there is no sarcoma is already pleasing. Received very nicely and politely. The coordinators are Russian-speaking. Every day they keep track of all matters. Those who passed the tests were not left alone for a single minute. Currently, we are waiting for a meeting with an oncologist and a radiologist. I recommend

I was not in the hospital. I asked just a second opinion. I was very disappointed, because I was working a lot to translate all the documentation into English, and finally I was discussing with doctor only 10 minutes, and the level of the discussion was very poor. Practically I did not get anything for 400 EUR.

Reply from Professor Johaness Drach:
Second opinion is given on the basis of a thorough analyses of provided medical reports. The procedure lasts as long until all questions of the patient have been clarified. If necessary specialists of other disciplines are also involved. The patient always receive a written statement.

The medical team was very professional,available at a short notice, explaining the options, and ready to answer any questions. All necessary medical tests have been done quickly. The preparation for surgery, operation itself and post-surgery care were performed with utmost care and professionalism, overall hospital environment was calming, which helped to reduce the stress associated with surgery and diagnosis. It would be good to have an accurate estimate of costs in advance to make an informed decision.

I was really nervous about a new breast lump that developed. I reached out to Book I med and explained my situation. I was directed to Hisar Intercontinental Hospital. They did biopsy, ultrasound and PET scan. Although I wanted surgery, doctor explained it wasn't in my best interest and recommended medication instead. Doctors were careful to come up with plan, they didn't rush to make decisions. I had a medical coordinator who assisted in transportation to and from hospital and coordinating tests and doctor visits. I was also assigned an interpreter for Turkish to English.They were both wonderful and it was nice to have assistance and smiling faces when I arrived. They always took time to listen to concerns and answer questions. I met with 2 doctors, a breast cancer surgeon and oncologist. They both were professional and friendly. They met with a tumor board of physicians to discuss my plan.I feel like I got professional care and good treatment plan. The hospital was clean and modern. They did a good job with the tests, I didn't feel any pain from the doctor who did my biopsy. Believe me when you have something as scary as a breast lump you want to be in good hands.I paid for each test and medication individually with credit card. I was told the cost before each purchase. Even though the whole bill wasn't cheap, it's much much lower cost than I could get in United States. As a self pay patient I am glad for that also. So overall even though I was struggling with something really bad(tumor) I feel like I got great and professional care at a decent price. I would truly recommend this to anyone. And Turkey is such a beautiful country with friendly people. There is hidden artwork everywhere. So even though I am going through this ordeal being in beautiful Turkey makes it not so bad. The food here is really good and cheap. I'm staying in Old city which has tons of Cafe restaurants. In your spare time just sitting at a Cafe and watching the myriad of people walking by is fun. I am confident I am going to beat this breast tumor with the help of the wonderful care given at Hisar Intercontinental Hospital.

We got to the MEMORIAL clinic due to an urgent diagnosis. The successful outcome of the operation depended on promptness. The question was about days. The operation was carried out the next day. The most difficult operation according to the Whipple method. Conducted by professor, head of surgery. Low bow to him. The entire staff of the department works perfectly, promptly responds to any request. Separately, I want to say about the work of the translator Aida. High qualification, operational work at any time of the day, sincerity - only a small description of her qualities. Special thanks for providing meals to the patient and accompanying person. The cuisine is very tasty, in some positions it is better than homemade. I enjoyed the vegetarian cuisine. But there is a different one. A low bow to all the staff of the clinic. They saved my husband's life.

When they learned what was needed in the clinic, they didn’t even know where to run and whom to contact. Coordinators helped to select a clinic. They gave us a doctor. Everything went great, the doctor is a true professional.  Separately, I want to note the attitude to patients. We were met at the airport, brought to the clinic and there was already a translator waiting. Literally "by the hand" we were taken to the doctors, everyone translated. Then they provided a taxi to the hotel.   During the operation, the ward was provided for two people - for the patient and the attendant; both of them were included in the cost of the operation.   After surgery, the doctor held a consultation, making sure that you can fly back. And only then answered questions remotely that arose.  Clinic definitely recommend

We were picked up from the airport, taken to hotel, then the same day at our request taken to the hospital for our appointment. Two days later we were in having eye surgery again with pick ups and drop offs. We were met at the hospital entrance, by bookimed.com translators and hospital translators they were amazing every day, in every way. The doctors were provisional and onto it, explaining every detail, and answering all our questions. Our procedure went very well and we are very happy with the outcome and how amazing we can see, no longer with glasses or contacts. I recommend bookimed.com to everyone. Vikki

Many thanks to Dr Bora Basharan and Alisher Durdiev! Diagnosis: carcinoma on the tongue. Alisher was very helpful with the choice and full support during the treatment. He gave us confidence in choosing Dr Bora Basharan by telling us about his professionalism and humanity. The most important thing for Alisher was the patient's health and to organise the diagnosis/surgery so that the patient gets the best results. We are very happy about this. We could not decide on the treatment (we were waiting for answers from South Korea) and Alisher did not give up to provide us with doctor's answers, answer our many questions and help with organisation. His ability to speak excellent Russian helped a lot in communication. The first meeting organised by Alisher went well. The doctor explained everything about the surgery and gave us peace of mind due to his experience as a highly specialised ENT surgeon in oncology. The operation went well and the follow up health checks. The recovery is good. We read many positive reviews online about Dr Bor Basharan which gave us more confidence. The reviews are true. After the surgery we were given a room with excellent food and the recovery was good. Thank Allah that we met Alisher and Dr Bora Basharan, for his golden hands, good surgery and organisation. Thank you very much again! Good health to all!

We thank Professor Gross for the difficult and very difficult operation. We are sure that in the CIS, and in many European clinics, Alexander would not come out of intensive care. Professor - the golden hands. Also thanks to the guys accompanying us as translators, Vladimir and Lydia. Moral support and qualified medical translation they provided completely. Also thanks to all employees of the Asklepios polyclinic, our two-week stay in the room of increased comfort and a week-long stay of Alexander in the intensive care unit, although it was not easy, but the staff did everything to help and facilitate the rehabilitation period. Very home furnishings and not fake care.

My name is Sergey, I am undergoing treatment at the oncology department of the Nordwest Clinic in Frankfurt am Main. I would like to note the high professional level of doctors, the technical equipment of the clinic at the proper level. I want to express special gratitude to Professor Elka Yeager, senior doctor Kiselichki, Dr. Weber, the highest level of professionalism, are very friendly and attentive, the junior staff are smart, everything is super, I’m very pleased with the treatment, if not for one “but” ... Because of ignorance language had to contact the company "Phoenix Service", which is an intermediary for the provision of medical services, led by Radislav. My communication with them began with the fact that before arrival they demanded a significant prepayment, which was timely transferred to their account. After arriving at the clinic, I had to transfer money several times, rather big money. I persistently asked the company’s employees to conclude an agreement with me on the provision of services by Phoenix Service, in order to specifically understand which services and for what specific payment the services will be provided. However, no contracts, as well as invoices with prices, were provided to me, which directly testifies to dishonesty. Only two months later I received the clinic’s bills (with which I completely agree) and separately a bill from Phoenix Service for the services rendered, after viewing which there were simply no words ... As it turned out, being treated in Germany was not expensive, it was expensive to pay for the services of Phoenix invoiced, which either didn’t turn out at all, or turned out to be in the wrong amount and at very high prices. I tried to talk with the head of the company Radislav, saying that I did not agree with the bill, to which I received the answer "if something does not suit you, you can refuse our services further." I officially wrote an appeal to the clinic about the detachment from this dishonest company, to which I received a positive response. He also wrote an official letter to Phoenix with a request to review the account, to which he still has not received an answer. I want to warn everyone who is in my position, those cancer patients who sell everything in order to pay for treatment and live on, but these “phoenixes” don’t stop at anything to enrich themselves at their expense.

Specialist Aleksey helped me very carefully, personally and for sure. Dad successfully underwent prostatectomy in the Czech Republic. I thank all the people involved in organizing Bookimed !!! Testimonial from patient Sergey: Dear visitors of the site "Bookimed", hello. I want to share my story with you. My name is Sergey, St. Petersburg, I am 65 years old and I have had prostate cancer. 03/19. 19 I got a PSA 6.26 analysis result. (I periodically donated blood for PSA, as there were some problems of a urological nature, besides, I was at risk, my father had prostate cancer) I turned to an oncologist, did an MRI of the pelvis, which showed that I in the left lobe of the gland, a capsule of 20x8 mm, conclusion: PIRADS 5, as bad as possible, as the doctor said. Next, the biopsy that confirmed the cancer, “Acinar Adenocarcinoma of the Prostate,” the total score for Gleason 6. Of course it was a hit! Although I understood that this is quite possible. My relatives helped me a lot: wife, children (I have two sons), wife of the eldest son (I do not like the word daughter-in-law). And then the question, "where to do the operation?" His son was told about the existence of the Bookimed company, which helps people in finding the best treatment option for various diseases around the world. He turned to this company, where he was immediately answered and offered two, the most acceptable options, the Czech Republic or Germany, the operation on the Da Vinci robot. Frankly, I was inclined to have surgery in St. Petersburg (three clinics have Da Vinci robots), but after talking with our doctors and the organizer of the operation at St. Zdislava Hospital in the Czech Republic, Irina Korchminskaya, I came to the conclusion that the operation should be done in Czech Republic !!! About a second, later did not regret it! As soon as I agreed to the operation, (previously I sent the results of the examination), on May 17, I was immediately scheduled for surgery on June 3. They immediately told me that the operation will be done by an assistant professor Dolezhal (experience, more than 2000 operations on prostate cancer on a robot !!!), assisted by Professor Tvaruzhek. All information about the clinic and doctors in the public domain on the website of the hospital of St. Zdislava. This is one of the many reasons why I had surgery there, and not in Russia, I could not get information on the statistics of operations performed by doctors in St. Petersburg. I flew to Prague 05/01/19, I was met at the airport and taken to the hospital, there I was met by the translator Otakar Peshek, speaks excellent Russian. 05/03/19 I had surgery, everything went well. I want to thank the entire staff of the hospital, all the great professionals, have been working in this hospital for many years, starting from nurses. Of course, many thanks to Professor Tvarujek, he is a great professional and a wonderful person! For all my busyness, whenever I had questions, I found time to answer them and give recommendations. I am also immensely grateful to Associate Professor Dolezhal, he directly operated on me and subsequently observed the recovery process. Special thanks to Dr. Khamzin! He did not participate in the operation and was not my attending physician. He graduated from the Leningrad Medical Institute, but for about twenty years he has been living and working in the Czech Republic, he stopped by several times, asked how he was doing and made recommendations for further recovery after being discharged from the hospital (gymnastics, etc.). While in the hospital, I contacted the employees of Bookimed three times. , on issues that have arisen with me and now, two months after the operation, I keep in touch with them, as well as with the St. Zdislava hospital, thank you all very much! Now everything is fine with me, almost completely recovered. 08/01/19 donated blood for PSA, the result is 0.026. I want to tell everyone who is faced with the same problem as mine, do not despair! Cancer, this is just a diagnosis! He can be defeated! You just need to turn to the professionals on time! And in the hospital of St. Zdislava wonderful doctors and nurses work! During my stay in the hospital, people underwent surgery: from Latvia, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Croatia, Mexico, Russia !! While in the hospital, I met one person from Riga, with the same problem as mine. We arrived with him on the same day, we performed operations with him on the same day, and on the same day we headed home. While walking in the surroundings (after the operation you need to walk as much as possible, and the hospital is located in the reserve!), We had the idea to travel across Europe from the hospital of St. Zdislava to the Spanish city of Santiago de Compostela on kickbike scooters under the slogan "we beat cancer!". We want to help people who for the first time encounter the same problem as ours understand that cancer can be defeated! We know how important support and faith are for such people, we have come this way! Perhaps this run will draw someone's attention to the existence of this problem and it will reveal this disease in time! The sooner a person turns to specialists with this problem, the easier it will be to win! If someone has questions, I will try to answer everyone, write

In principle, the visit went very well, only good impressions remained. Now there are certain problems, because doctors at home do not agree with the diagnosis that was made in China, but we were provided with professional help at the Food Clinic. Despite the fact that the full-time translator was on vacation and we took it on our own, the visit went very well. The rooms are very good, they look like 5 star rooms. As soon as we arrived, the nurses came to the ward, measured the pressure, helped in everything. In general, the clinic staff is friendly and helpful.

FAQ about Liver cancer Treatment

What Is Liver Cancer?

Liver cancer, also known as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), is a severe condition that develops when abnormal cells in the liver grow uncontrollably and compromise the immune system. These tumors can disrupt normal liver function and can be life-threatening if left untreated.

The liver is a vital organ responsible for various functions, including:

  • Filtering toxins from the blood;

  • Producing proteins;

  • Storing nutrients.

Liver cancer has two main types based on a malignancy location:

  • 🔺Primary liver cancer derives from liver cells;

  • 🔻Secondary liver cancer is a metastasis of a tumor from a different location.

best liver cancer hospital in world

Primary liver cancer accounts for about 2% of all cancers in the U.S. and affects twice as many men as women, with an average age of diagnosis at 67. It has two main subtypes:

  • 🔬 Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common type, accounting for about 90% of all liver cancers. It originates in the primary type of liver cells called hepatocytes.

  • 🔬 Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) is a less common type that starts in the bile ducts responsible for transporting bile, a digestive fluid. The doctors call this type "bile duct cancer".

Liver cancer can affect people of all ages, but it's more common in individuals with certain risk factors.

What Are the Risk Factors for Liver Cancer?

The main risk factors of primary liver cancer include having hepatitis B or hepatitis C. These diseases are destroying liver cells, increasing their chances for mutation. Several other factors can increase a person's risk of developing liver cancer.

liver cancer treatment cost

These include:

Cirrhosis

Cirrhosis, the scarring of liver tissue due to long-term damage, significantly increases the risk of liver cancer. When the liver attempts to repair itself repeatedly, scar tissue formation impairs its function and elevates the likelihood of emerging tumor cells.

Patients with cirrhosis, regardless of the underlying cause, are typically under surveillance for liver cancer, as they are at a higher risk of developing HCC.

Lifestyle Factors

Liver cancer specialists claim that heavy alcohol consumption over time can cause liver inflammation and damage, leading to cirrhosis and an increased likelihood of cancer development.

Obesity is another critical risk factor, as it is associated with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which can progress to cirrhosis and liver cancer. Additionally, smoking has been linked to a higher risk of liver cancer, as the harmful chemicals in tobacco can contribute to liver damage over time.

Genetic Factors

Hemochromatosis, a disorder where the body absorbs too much iron, can lead to iron buildup in the liver, causing cirrhosis and increasing cancer risk. Another genetic disorder, alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, can result in liver disease, particularly in children and young adults, by causing abnormal protein accumulation in the liver cells, leading to cirrhosis.

Exposure to Toxins

Chronic exposure to certain toxins significantly heightens the risk of liver cancer. Aflatoxins, produced by a specific mold that grows on improperly stored grains and nuts, are a well-known carcinogen, particularly in developing countries with poor food safety practices.

Plus, industrial chemicals like vinyl chloride, used in plastics manufacturing, have been linked to liver tumors. Individuals working in industries with chemical exposure or those living in areas with poor food safety measures are at a heightened risk for developing liver tumors.

What Are the Symptoms of Primary Liver Cancer?

Early-stage tumor often presents with no noticeable symptoms. However, as the cancer progresses, some potential signs and symptoms include:

  • Unexplained weight loss;

  • Loss of appetite;

  • Fatigue;

  • Nausea and vomiting;

  • Abdominal pain or swelling in the upper right abdomen;

  • Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes);

  • Enlarged liver (hepatomegaly);

  • Dark-colored urine.

*Please note that the symptoms mentioned above could indicate other conditions. Contact a Bookimed coordinator to consult with a liver cancer oncologist. Our medical advisors are available to assist you, either online or offline, based on your preference.

How Is Liver Cancer Staged?

The Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) system is a widely used method. It categorizes liver tumors based on several factors, such as:

  • Tumor size and number of tumors;

  • Preserved liver function;

  • Presence of vascular invasion (whether cancer has spread to blood vessels).

The BCLC staging system has five stages:

  • 🟡 stage 0: very early;

  • 🟡 stage A: early;

  • 🟡 stage B: intermediate;

  • 🟡 stage C: advanced;

  • 🟡 stage D: end-stage.

What Are the Treatment Approaches?

Every patient needs a personalized treatment plan according to the cancer's stage, severity of symptoms, etc. The National Cancer Institute recommends the following treatment options:

Therapy

Options

Benefits

Risks/side effects

Surgery

Complete removal of tumor (hepatectomy), a portion of the liver (resection), or performing a liver transplant in suitable cases.

Removing the tumor in the early stages.

Bleeding, infection, and damage to surrounding organs.

Liver ablation

A minimally invasive technique that destroys cancer cells using heat, radiofrequency, or freezing.

  • Radiofrequency ablation;

  • Microwave ablation;

  • Cryoablation, etc.

Allows for faster recovery and fewer complications compared to open surgery. It can be effective for small, localized tumors.

Pain, bleeding, and infection.

Embolization therapy

This is for patients without metastases unsuitable for surgery or ablation. The doctor inserts a catheter into the hepatic artery to stop the blood supply of hepatocellular carcinoma.

Reduces blood flow to the tumor, potentially slowing its growth and minimizing symptoms.

Indirect damage of healthy tissues due to intended blockage of blood vessels.

Chemotherapy

Drugs such as Gemzar or Eloxatin can be used to treat liver cancer. Although most chemo medicines do not have a significant effect on liver tumors, doctors use them in combination with other treatments.

Clears out mutated cells, controlling cancer spread.

Nausea, vomiting, hair loss, and fatigue.

Radiation therapy

The external device sends high-energy X-rays toward the damaged area.

  • Conformal radiation therapy shapes the radiation beams to fit the tumor;

  • Stereotactic body radiation therapy places patients in the same position every time to reduce damaging healthy tissues;

  • Proton therapy sends streams of protons for effective tumor removal.

Quickly destroying the malignant area, reducing the potential of cancer spread.

Fatigue, skin irritation, and digestive problems.

Targeted therapy

Drugs like bevacizumab, cabozantinib, and lenvatinib attack specific tumor cells. They block critical proteins for cell growth inducing remission.

Selectively targets cancer cells, minimizing damage to healthy tissues.

High blood pressure, fatigue, and skin problems.

How to Choose Treatment Based on Cancer's Stage?

Here's a breakdown of hepatocellular carcinoma stages alongside the suitable plans:

Stage

Definition

BCLC group

Treatment Method

Localized

The cancer is confined to the liver.

0, A, and B.

Surgery

Locally advanced

The cancer has not spread to distant organs but cannot be safely removed by surgery.

C

Chemotherapy, proton therapy, and targeted therapies.

Metastatic

The cancer has spread to distant parts of the body.

D

Palliative treatment strategy.

Recurrent

The cancer has returned after initial treatment.

-

Combination of therapies, depending on the severity of symptoms and test results.

Some patients opt to participate in clinical trials. They can benefit from testing a new drug for free or try out new experimental treatments.
